Klong Muang is the upscale resort beach 18-20 minutes north of central Ao Nang via Route 4203, dominated by Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort, Dusit Thani Krabi Beach Resort and Chada Beach Resort & Spa. The vibe is tranquil and couples / family / golf-leaning, a deliberate quiet alternative to busier Ao Nang. The village commercial strip is small (one 7-Eleven, a handful of Thai restaurants), which means most riders use Klong Muang as a base to ride out: north on Route 4202 to quieter Tubkaek and the Khao Ngon Nak hike, or south on Route 4203 back to Ao Nang for groceries, ATM and onward island longtails. Fuel before you leave; there is no station in Klong Muang itself.
Route 4202 north of Klong Muang is a fast, quiet two-lane that gets unlit between resort properties; sharp curves cluster near the Tubkaek and Khao Ngon Nak trailhead turnoffs. Route 4203 south to Ao Nang is well-paved with light traffic outside of morning resort-transfer windows. Klong Muang Beach Road itself is a slow village lane shared with stray dogs and resort delivery trucks.
Free guest parking covers Sofitel, Dusit Thani, Chada Beach Resort and Krabi Klong Muang Bay View Resort. The informal village lot near the public beach access has roughly 20-30 spaces, no attendant but low-theft, and is fine for a beach lunch stop. Non-guests cannot park inside resort compounds; the public verge is the default.
The PTT at Ao Nang Circle on Route 4203 is the nearest reliable refuel, 8-10 km south, identifiable by the attached 7-Eleven. A Bangchak / PTT pair sits in the Ao Luek district north of Klong Muang on Route 4202 if you continue north to Tubkaek and beyond. Klong Muang itself has no station; fuel before riding north.
Route 4203 / 4202 sees the morning resort-transfer wave 07:30-09:30 (airport pickups and outbound day-tours) and the late-afternoon return 16:00-18:00. Sofitel, Dusit Thani and Chada all have wide blind driveway exits onto Route 4202; expect tour vans and delivery trucks pulling out without full visibility. After dark the Route 4202 stretch back to Tubkaek is unlit; ride southbound to Ao Nang in daylight.
A 12-15 km ride north on Route 4202 to the Khao Ngon Nak trailhead inside Hat Noppharat Thara National Park; last entry to start the 7.4 km round-trip hike is 14:00, with a 360 panorama of the Andaman Sea from the summit at 565 m.
Run south on Route 4203 to central Ao Nang, pick up Route 4034 inland for 20 km to the 1,260-step temple climb at 309 m; fuel at the Ao Nang Circle PTT before leaving Klong Muang.
Run 18 km south on Route 4203 to central Ao Nang for groceries and an ATM, then optionally continue 5 km on Route 4204 to Susan Hoi (200 THB) and Ao Nam Mao Pier; routine police checkpoint near Centara, ride below the limit.
A 25 km road run to Krabi Town's Chao Fah Pier, then a 20-30 minute longtail boat (300-400 THB) into the twin 100 m limestone hills of Khao Khanab Nam; combine with a Krabi-riverside fish lunch.

Route 4202 between Klong Muang and Tubkaek is the area's main hazard: long unlit stretches at night, low traffic that encourages local riders into 80-100 km/h, sharp bends near the Khao Ngon Nak trailhead, occasional roaming cattle and dogs, and blind driveway exits from the Sofitel, Dusit and Chada compounds. Avoid riding north of Klong Muang after 19:00 unless essential. The Ao Nang Traffic Police Box at 243 Thanon 4203 is a routine, no-toll checkpoint; smile, produce IDP, passport and rental papers and you are waved through. Helmets are mandatory and enforced.
